Being an industry – and it is no accident that we have put a map of our world in the centre of this edition – means highlighting what our role is: we are an industry which, even in years of market contraction, has been able to innovate, to become more efficient, to discover new authors and promote new genres, to launch ourselves in emerging markets and to incorporate innovation in our production and distribution processes and make it our own. Could we have done better? Undoubtedly! But this is precisely why we assert our commitment to produce culture and to be culture and, at the same time and in equal measure, industry.
